Buddy Small

President

After graduating from the University of Mississippi, teaching for the Houston Independent School District and serving in the U.S. Army for two years, Buddy Small began his real estate career with Mark Lee & Associates, Inc. in Houston, Texas.  During his fourteen year service with Mark Lee & Associates, Buddy began in property management which led to Head of Operations and later, Vice President of Marketing and Sales.  In those roles, he managed and leased a suburban office portfolio of approximately four million square feet and led the sales and marketing initiative for a 440 acre land development known as Northborough, a class “A” mixed use property in North Houston.   His major accomplishments were:

  • Assisted in preleasing to Bechtel Incorporated a 350,000 square foot office building in San Felipe Green Office Park

  • Preleased to 100% Gibraltar Saving Center a fifteen (15) story 225,000 square foot office building in Downtown Midland, Texas.

  • Preleased to 100% a twenty (20) story 440,000 square foot office building in San Felipe Green Office Park

  • Sold over 400 acres of land to commercial users and developers in Houston, Texas

In 1987 Buddy was recruited by The Portman Companies to market and lease Peachtree Center, a six building, 2.2 million square foot mixed use development in Downtown Atlanta.  After much success, Buddy was transferred within The Portman Companies to head up the management and leasing of Northpark Town Center, a suburban office complex consisting of 1.2 million square feet.   His major accomplishments were:

  • Peachtree Center - Achieved over 90% occupancy for the first time in the history of Peachtree Center a then 25 year office complex. He also repositioned the Mall at Peachtree Center which resulted in leases with national and regional merchants such as Brooks Brothers, Steve Nygrin’s Mick’s restaurant concept, George Rohrig’s Azio restaurant concept and Ninfa’s restaurant out of Houston, Texas

  • Assisted in preleasing of Sun Trust Plaza to Atlanta Gas Light Company, KPMG, McKenna, Long, & Aldridge and Jones Day Law firm to meet financing requirements for the 64 story 1.2 million square foot office tower in Downtown Atlanta.

  • Northpark Town Center - Leased project to 95% occupancy while at the same time increased effective rental rates by 25%.

In 1996 The Portman Companies charged Buddy with discovering new development opportunities in Central and Eastern Europe and the US as well.  In this capacity Buddy was responsible for the development of the $80 million Westin Warsaw Hotel in Poland which was completed in 2001.  He also headed up a team of colleagues that conducted a study of land holdings adjacent to Taiwan’s new high speed rail system for the Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC).

In 2010, Buddy with his wife, Linda, started a new firm, Pointer Commercial Real Estate, Inc., that will focus on acquisition, management and leasing of retail shopping centers in Metro Atlanta and smaller, secondary cities in the Southeast.  His background along Linda’s experience in management and leasing of retail centers uniquely positions the company to take advantage of the distressed market conditions that exists today and its recovery in the years to come.


Linda Small

SVP, Retail Services

Linda Small grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland. She then went on to college at Southern Seminary College for Women (SEM) in Buena Vista, Virginia to study Business Marketing. At SEM, Linda was selected to be on the National Championship Intercollegiate Equestrian Riding Team. Linda’s team won the National Championship two years in a row.

After college, Linda moved to Atlanta and started her career in commercial real estate. She began her career in marketing when she took a position at a local Atlanta family business that owned over 1.2 million square feet of retail space as the Director of Marketing. In this role Linda oversaw all aspects of marketing which included positioning the company in the industry through ICSC conventions, advancing relationships with the brokerage communities and industry press, positioning each shopping center in its local community in order to better serve these communities, and developing marketing strategies for individual tenants to increase sales.

Next Linda became a Property Manager which led to Asset Management while working at Maxwell Properties in Atlanta where she serviced third-party clients that consisted of approximately 800,000square feet of retail space throughout Georgia. Linda then went to work for JDN Realty Corporation, a Real Estate Investment Trust, as a Property Manager, managing an average of 1.8 million square feet of retail space per year. Linda moved into Leasing as well while working at JDN. Linda also managed a large portfolio for IRT Property Company, another REIT in Atlanta which held properties throughout the Southeast. While working for The Sembler Company she acted as property manager, asset manager and leasing representative for a 2.2 million square foot portfolio. 

Later Linda, using her vast experience representing Landlords, focused on third-party retail leasing assignments in the Southeast. She leased space for companies such as BVT Property Company in Atlanta and Nashville, TN, Flexxon Operating where she leased a former K-Mart site to new tenants such as Publix Grocery, Marshall’s, Old Navy, and many local tenants in Gainesville, GA and Coro Realty Advisors and The Kroger Company. Linda has leased over 400,000sf of retail space for established shopping centers as well as pre-leasing for future retail development. Linda also has experience in tenant representation for such companies as Barberitos Mexican Grill and their expansion plans throughout the Southeast. 

Linda’s career that has spanned over twenty years, has given her the ability to better serve her clients through Pointer Commercial Real Estate capitalizing on her vast experiences in the retail real estate industry.

Brian Small

Web Designer

Brian Small was born and raised in Houston, Texas. Majored in Multi-Media and graduated from The Art Institute of Houston in 2008. Now resides in Dallas, Texas where he is the Sr. Creative Designer and Developer for Mark Cuban owned Magnolia Pictures, Magnet Releasing, Magnolia Home Entertainment, Landmark Theatres, 2929 Entertainment, 2929 Productions, Silver Cinemas, Westside Tavern and the Todd Wagner Foundation. In his spare time, he shares the stage with is wonderful singing wife Julia Small in a P!NK tribute called JUST LIKE PINK. He is also in an Alice in Chains tribute called Go Ask Alice. He loves spending time raising his son Bryson Small.

Katie Sickles

Graphic Designer

Katie Sickles Small grew up in Frisco, Texas, a rapidly growing suburb of Dallas. She attended Texas Tech University, where she graduated in 2003 with Dual Bachelor degrees in Psychology and Interpersonal Communication Studies. Being raised in an artistic and creative family, Katie always had a knack for design, art, and knowing what speaks to people. What better recipe for Marketing and Graphic Design?

Following graduation from Texas Tech, Katie pursued studying design in Chicago and San Francisco over the next 4 years. After immersing herself in the completely different creative environments that these two cities had to offer, Katie returned to Dallas to bring her creative skills to life working for acclaimed printing houses and artists. Using her love of art and knowledge of the impact that a great advertising campaign can possess, she found her niche in Advertising and Marketing Design.
